You can open additional windows for the same document or for other InDesign documents. You can also display different magnifications of the same page, so that you can work closely on details while watching how the changes affect the overall layout. In addition, you can display a parent page in one window, and pages based on it in other windows, to see how editing the parent page affects various parts of the document.
Anti-aliasing smooths the jagged edges of type and bitmap images by softening the color transition between edge pixels and background pixels.
Since only the edge pixels change, no detail is lost. You can enable or disable anti-aliasing for each of the view settings. For example, you can enable anti-aliasing for High Quality view and disable it for Fast view.
When display capabilities are insufficient to show text at a small size, InDesign displays the text as a dimmed bar. This behavior is called greeking type. To control whether to greek text and images when you scroll a document, open the Interface section of the Preferences dialog box, drag the Hand Tool slider to the desired level of performance versus quality, and then click OK.
You can perform simple math in any numerical edit box. Panels use the measurement system selected in the Preferences dialog box; however, you can specify values in another measurement instead.
To replace the entire current value with a mathematical expression, select the entire current value. To use the current value as part of a mathematical expression, click before or after the current value. I'll leave mine as default, just to match my students' when they come into class. So we're going to leave that there. Before we get out of here though, I'd like to show you, under 'General', this thing here, 'Show "Start" Workspace', this is the new workspace in where it kind of shows you the documents you've been working on.
Some people don't like that, they don't want to see all the panels like it was before. You can just turn that off there, click 'OK'. And it means, when it starts up, it goes to this view. But that's totally up to you, it annoys lots of people. Under 'Preferences' again, we're going to go to-- I'm going to turn that back on.
I've grown to like it, but I know a lot of people don't. One of the other things people don't like working with is Interface. Over here, you can click through, and just change it back to old school InDesign. Up to you. I'm going to go to this default here of this Medium Dark. Let's click 'OK'. Next thing we can do to make your starting a job a lot smoother and a lot faster is to adjust the default pages because whenever you go to 'file', 'New', 'Document', you've got 'Print', and you've got some defaults.
So US Letter has defaults but there might be things in here, like you might always be using two columns and the margins, you might be changing. So you might have things you do every single time, and you're like "Man, every time I have to do that. We're going to double click the 'Default'.

To add a floating panel or panel group to an icon dock, drag it in by its tab or title bar. Panels are automatically collapsed to icons when added to an icon dock.
To move a panel icon or panel icon group , drag the icon. You can drag panel icons up and down in the dock, into other docks where they appear in the panel style of that dock , or outside the dock where they appear as floating icons.
Access the panel menus using the icon on the upper-right corner of the panel. By saving the current size and position of panels as a named workspace, you can restore that workspace even if you move or close a panel.
The names of saved workspaces appear in the workspace switcher in the Application bar. Panel Locations. Menus or Menu Customization. Select Delete Workspace from the workspace switcher, select the workspace, and then click Delete. When the toolbox is displayed in a single column, you can select view modes by clicking the current mode button and selecting a different mode from the menu that appears.

Unlike the menus that appear at the top of your screen, context-sensitive menus display commands related to the active tool or selection. You can use context menus as a quick way to choose commonly used commands.
Select the color theme for InDesign interface. What are workspaces and how can they be edited create, rename, delete? Workspaces are displayed at the top of the panel in the drop-down list. If a new workspace is created, it is empty and new buttons and containers can be added. Use the drop-down list to switch between workspaces.
Workspaces can be created, renamed, or deleted from the control panel menu. How to add your own scripts? Can I export standalone panels? The export of standalone panels is not possible. Assign color to buttons and containers and much more. One-time payment. Now a lot of people, me included, I like to kind of copy things, move it over here and start working on alternate layouts.
But there's not a lot of room in here, watch this. If I start making a couple of versions and if I start dragging it up, there's just no room there, there's definitely no room at the top. By default, only gives you a tiny Pasteboard area. So we can adjust that here in InDesign as well. Now there's two ways to do it, per document. And down the bottom here is where the defaults are. So, mine is 8. It's got this 18", and over here, by maybe 5". You'll see, it has a much bigger Pasteboard area.
Some people love a big Pasteboard area, some people don't. One of the other things though, if you make it really, really big, say it is 15" on the vertical, if you have another page, they're actually quite physically far apart. It's not a big deal, but that's just something to be considered.
Now though, if I open up a new document, any random document, you'll notice, my Pasteboard area is back to the teeny tiny size. To get around that, have nothing open, I'm going to close both of these back up. Close, close… and have nothing open, and if I change my settings now, it will change forever.
So you can go in here, change it up to a bigger size. I'll leave mine as default, just to match my students' when they come into class.
